Colour reliant Graphic design

When it came to looking for design that relies on its use of colour
to effectively deliver a message, I immediately thought of the
HUVI Design studio based in Manchester. A large majority of
their design relies on colour, which instantly becomes evident
from simply viewing their homepage.

Previously posted when documenting 'simple and effective graphic
design', this concept of ink cartridge packaging and the manor in which it
is displayed would have no impact whatsoever without colour.

Mail Shot research,

Various definitions are found when searching for the term 'Mail Shot';

-
mail·shot [ máyl shòt ] (plural  mail·shots)

noun
U.K.
Definition:
1. sending of unsolicited items of mail: the sending of unsolicited letters, advertisements,
or brochures to a large number of people at one time

2. unsolicited item of mail: a letter, advertisement, or brochure sent as part of a
mailshot
-

• 'Mailshots (or Mail shots) are bulk mail advertising sent through the mail in the United Kingdom to potential customers to advertise goods or services. They can be "warm", meaning that they are more specialized, or "cold", similar to the grocery store ads that arrive in mail-boxes once a week'.

-

• Mailshot, the speculative targeting of a particular or specified group of people by mail. A mailshot normally contains advertising, fundraising requests, or press releases.-

In other circumstances this concept is also referred to as 'junk mail', however this is the exact opposite of what I am hoping to achieve with this project. People instantly associate flyers, leaflets, catalogues etc. with this term and more commonly just throw it straight in the bin. The aim is to produce a 'Mail Shot' that is not only visually appealing, but introduces an interactive aspect to the physical side, intriguing the receiver, compelling them to open and pay attention.

I started researching unusual and innovative envelope designs, designs not necessarily associated with mail shots but that could be applicable to my research and ideas process.

Essentially, envelopes are a form of very basic origami, the art of folding paper. These images above work more on the side of texture, stock and colour to stand them apart from the rest, which in these cases would most likely strike a reaction from the audience. An Idea I want to explore is that of a more extravagant way to construct these envelopes, even further interacting with the audience with something to feel and not just admire.-I found a very tidy project here on behance.net, looking at eco friendly packaging solely using origami techniques. The results are quite interersting.
Other envelope related origami designs;

Spacial sequence -
research imagery

"Anamorphosis is an art of distorted projection or perspective
requiring the viewer to use special devices or occupy a specific
vantage point to reconstitute the image."

Channel 4 trailers are probably the most relatable example of
this concept, with the videos gradually panning round to reveal
the channel 4 logo. The subjects are constantly changing form
buildings, to landscapes, to haystacks.

These examples work purely with shape and colour, the same
concept is applied to achieve a perfect impossible triangle
in the second. I'm especially drawn to the derelict
building used as the canvas.

Although not working in the same manner, these next images
work predominately with perspective. A technique
I haven't come across, but immediately attracted to.

NO news is good news research,

An article I found relating to seized customs items, the
beauty of this project lies in the artists documentation of
the obscure and unusual objects attempting to pass through
JFK International Airport. The artist, Taryn Simon spent 5
days at the airport collecting over 1000 photographs of items
seized from passengers and express mail entering the U.S.

Items included the active ingredient found in Botox, counterfeit
clothes and designer accessories, pharmaceuticals, jewelry,
overproof Jamaican rum, drugs, items made from endangered
species, Cuban cigars, animal parts, pirated DVDs, khat, gold dust,
GBL (date rape drug), cow-manure tooth powder, and steroids.
