Various definitions are found when searching for the term 'Mail Shot';
-
- • 'Mailshots (or Mail shots) are bulk mail advertising sent through the mail in the United Kingdom to potential customers to advertise goods or services. They can be "warm", meaning that they are more specialized, or "cold", similar to the grocery store ads that arrive in mail-boxes once a week'. - • Mailshot, the speculative targeting of a particular or specified group of people by mail. A mailshot normally contains advertising, fundraising requests, or press releases.- In other circumstances this concept is also referred to as 'junk mail', however this is the exact opposite of what I am hoping to achieve with this project. People instantly associate flyers, leaflets, catalogues etc. with this term and more commonly just throw it straight in the bin. The aim is to produce a 'Mail Shot' that is not only visually appealing, but introduces an interactive aspect to the physical side, intriguing the receiver, compelling them to open and pay attention. I started researching unusual and innovative envelope designs, designs not necessarily associated with mail shots but that could be applicable to my research and ideas process. - - - Essentially, envelopes are a form of very basic origami, the art of folding paper. These images above work more on the side of texture, stock and colour to stand them apart from the rest, which in these cases would most likely strike a reaction from the audience. An Idea I want to explore is that of a more extravagant way to construct these envelopes, even further interacting with the audience with something to feel and not just admire.-I found a very tidy project here on behance.net, looking at eco friendly packaging solely using origami techniques. The results are quite interersting. Other envelope related origami designs; |
