Infographic cocktails,

Crisp, to the point infographics documenting the perfect make-up of some of the worlds favourite cocktails. Really appropriate use of colour throughout and very professional illustrations.

Uncovered,

The interesting binding method drew my eye to this book but uncovered some really thoughtful content. 'A group of no identity', the Chinese illegal immigrants in the UK revealed their true selves in this book after years of interviews and photographic journalism by Toby Ng Design. The minimalistic book cover represents the lack of identity within this culture; 'If a book-cover is where people identify a book, no identity, like the ones in it, is offered to this book.' The book is presented in English and Chinese depending on which side you open it.

New world order,
Visual identity,

'New World Order' refers to a worldwide conspiracy directed by a group of extremely powerful individuals. The principles held by this group are rather worrying, seeking worldwide totalitarianism. Daniela Meloni created an identity and Annual report for the NWO elite.
Very tidy design work, constantly experimenting with stock, page layout and composition throughout the publication. Some clever thinking has gone into producing such a barely legible logo, which tops off the quality of the identity...

"The poor legibility of the logo works as a metaphor for the
New World Order: it is everywhere, but you can’t understand it, it is in front of you but you need a deeper sight to spot it."

A vast selection of shots from the publication are availiable from Meloni's behance profile, it was painstaking to choose a quality selection as every page is as crisp as the last.

3's,
Three wise monkeys,

"See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil"

Legend has it that the three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil.

This could be an interesting area to explore for my hot dog-fold book, at this point I think I'm going to stick with it and start pushing some designs and ideas and see where it takes me...

Andy Gilmore,
Digital works,

A very small collection of Gilmores digital work, I prefer these simpler examples to some of his other, more complex peices found here. The use of vibrant colour and simple shape really work for me, could imagine them making some really nice poster designs.

Future Clocks,

Polk. have come up with several 'future clock' designs along with various other flash creations. Some of their takes on this art are rather imaginative, I could imagine the top example to work quite well in watch format. It's surprising how little the way we display time varies, although some of these would be rediculous in terms of everyday use.

Visual Language,
3's,
3 word phrases.

For the book fair, I want to produce a piece of design not necessarily with any direct connection to my current work, solely for the purpose of aesthetics and design. I started to think about famous trios, i.e. The three Stooges or The Supremes...

... or sets of three that we interact with in our everyday lives. - Wheels on a tricycle//Sides/corners to a triangle//Crappy Hollywood sequels//Traffic Lights.

Most of which I felt were pretty tepid other than triangles, so I continued my pursuit for an area of 3's to focus on, which led me to 3 word phrases.

These could give me some really nice context to start working with, incorporating text and image. Out of the hundreds I found here are a few of the better ones..

•Go for it.
•Got your back.
•Now or never.
•I love you
•Nurture your best.
•Let it go.
•Try something new.
•Over and out.
•Believe in yourself.
•Who are you?
•Real recognise real
•Change is good.
•Ride or die.
•Against all odds.
•Seize the day.
•Knowledge is power.
•Save every penny.
•Safe and sound.

Dribbble,
Infographic.

Dribbble is a platform for creatives to show and tell work, current projects and all things design. Jamie Brightmore, a creative designer came up with these infographics to give an idea of what the site is about and who it appeals to.

Colour theory graphic,

Light touch projector,

This light projector has upped the levels science wise, using holographic projection technology and an infra-red touch sensitive system. Which is brilliant, but in terms of function and practicality I'm not sure how this has at all advanced from the iPad.

I'm intrigued by the projector more so than the concept. It manages to produce a 10 inch WVGA resolution image at a surprisingly short distance using this holographic technology. Where will the screen take us next...

Type, Grids and LAyout,

The people at Typophile have kindly presented a tutorial for good typography in InDesign, although I haven't as yet started to use this software. It is definitely an area I am going to explore and hopefully this will come in useful at some point.

Infographic research,

'A chromatic guide to bicycle gear ratios' from vengist. Beautiful use of colour and shape, not to sure on how this works in terms of tallying up with actual gears but I'm sure with a more detailed view it would be completely decodable with aid of the key at the bottom.

Matilda Saxow,

... a Swedish graphic designer and art director based in London, with degrees from the Royal College of Art and the London College of Communications. Her website is beautifully simple, a straight forward left hand menu, with a large .gif flipping between two vibrant patterns as the main focus of the screen.

I feel simple website like this one are definitely the most effective in terms of capturing the audience. In such a vast world of websites, if it isn't crisp with easy navigation I'm definitely prone to not paying it any further attention. Design has to draw me in.

Inofrmation as light,

Not entirely relevant to my current practice, 'speed of light' was an installation produced by UVA (United Visual Artists), celebrating 10 years of broadband. The whole project itself was built on the idea of speed being light, and light being data.

Grid-A-Licious,
Website template,

Available here, Grid-A-Licious is an extremely simple and beautifully laid out website template. As mentioned in the description, it is well recognised within the design world, if anything slightly over used. Nonetheless the design is very crisp, executing perfect grid use.

If the world were a village of 100 people,

Although I'm not entirely keen on the graphic side of these posters, the concept they are representing is rather interesting. As our current project is collection 100, in which my response has started to feed into the infographic area, this project starts to become rather relevant in the way information can be represented. The whole project can be found here along with a short write up.

Collection 100,
Whole group crit,
DVD sleeves,

I'm looking to produce a copy of my 2 short moving image pieces on a DVD and present it alongside a fold out poster in a tidy little case. These are a few examples of interesting designs encorporating DVD packaging.

This specific design is more product based and wouldn't be appropriate for my current project but i love the 'eject' concept it enforces...

Not particulary appealing designs at all, I do however like the simplicity of the case, simple half fold ith the DVD sleve inside. I'm probbaly going to persue a slightly more complex version of this style...
