Better
"We are starting the new year with some new projects, new goals and new challenges.
Whatever you do, always try to be the best you can be. Spread the word."
A minute long motivational typographic motion graphic from Clim, simply using the quote, 'I'm/You're/We're going to make it better', a quote that should always be lingering in my head as a designer. Beautiful use of colour and type, especially from 0.50 - 1.00 min. There is some really crisp stuff over at their website, more posts coming this way from the studio...

Colour guide
I went to the local record shop/spray paint distributor in leeds to see if they had any printed media relevant to the guide I'm going to be producing as a final printed product. They had a newer version of the MTN 94 spray paint range. This fold-out guide is 4 colour process, most likely offset litho and folded.
KOBRA
Looking at the branding and identity of new KOBRA LOW cans. The colour chart is very limited and only an online version, but I can gather an good idea of what they're offering, it's a shame about the disgusting type heading above the colour swatches but the can design is extremely crisp.
Simple clean can designs, 3 colours including a metalic gold. I'm unsure of the printing process this design would undertake, maybe a rotay screen print or litho? I would think looking at the can, the accompanying printed media would be particulaly crisp although looking at the online graphics it doesn't suggest that its as nice as I was expecting.

Vintage
I found a rather hefty collection of spray paint can designs from over the years at TWBE. Although initially appearing very colourful, many of the cans work with few spot colours plus stock. Colour for print has been a large consideration recently when thinking about any design, I'm still undecided about how I'm going to go approach applying colour for the can identity.

Colour guide
After brosing the Montana website, looking at the various brandings for different types of spray paint, I came across their online .pdf version of a colur guide. I want to find some physical examples of colour guides to look at how they work with regards to print, but in terms of layout, colour names and range, these are definitly a good starting point. I'll be looking at other examples from different companies to gain a wider understanding of what I'll be producing.
Promo
Promotional video for MTN 94's new range of flourecent colours, collaborating with a legendary artist APEX its this kind of viral advertising and promotion that attracts interest in the spray paint industry. Although it bares little relevance to design for print, it's good to get an idea of how other companies go about promoting their products.
NIKE78
NIKE78 is an exciting new project created by Paul Jenkins and inspired
by NIKE. Creatives involved will receive a brand new pair of NIKE shoes
and will be asked to use sport as inspiration to challenge their
function.
I love these visuals below using vibrantly bright colours with an overprint style effect. I'm pretty sure most of the shpaes are made up from parts of nike shoes, an area I could look into for can/poster graphics?

GRID
A 15 day viral project that was set up by Nike with the slogan 'Run you City', runners everywhere over London use phone boxes in specific postcodes to run routes and earn points, 15 days to run the city. Brilliant concept with the leader board aspect, managing to almost mask the element of exercise with a fairly simple game.
As a visual thinker, it was the branding of the project that led me to discover it. Not overly blown away by the type, but the use of spot colour is something I want to bear in mind when designing for my own project

Babel
This is a book from my collection that links back to a similar post on my context in which
the same concept of overprinted text is used. The book has a heavy focus on 'communication'
and looks at various projects concerning the theme.
The use of blue and red (although missing from the book) acetate cleverly allows the same
passage written on the same page in two different fonts, to become legible in either style
placed over the page. A beautiful technique to accompany a book concerning the issue of
communication.

CANTOUR
Waynelei Design produced this wayfinding system is designed to make a museum browsing experience more efficient.I would expect each colour to be a spot, although seeing as there is 6 main colours plus the text on the publication, the costing would be rather expensive. So the publication would be CMYK process but it could need to be pantone mathced to get the colour for wayfinding graphics around the museum and surrounding area.

DUMDUM
Again from BASTER, I love this set of monotone posters. The choice of colour here is impeccible, all rich vibrant colours working for both type and image. The posters are for a festival, each representing a different night of acts and line up, a clever way to further brand and theme each night.

Schampus
This quarterly magazine for Schampus designed by Bergmann Studios has a very strong
focus on layout and colour. Using only 2 spot colour throughout this publication, it
effectively manages to differentiate between sections of text and image keeping the cost of
the job affordable but in no way bland.
The monochrome imagery keeps the colour theme consistent and again effectively
communicates the imagery whilst keeping the price down.
